From December through February I was inside, painting steadily:
15 rather large paintings focused on winter sunlight, indoor and outdoor framed by the architecture of doors and windows. My viewing position shifted only a few feet in my studio.
Late February and early March the reality of the pandemic hit.
I was and have been struggling with depression and sadness. I have been only able - early on in March - to make three works.
I am currently spending all my time gardening, it's been years since I started such large projects. It's hopeful by its nature. Enjoying the process, even though sharing the results seems far off, may lead back to the process of painting.
"March 4, 2020" my focus started to shift away from the light outside - here a raging snow squall on the left third of the canvas - to the inside hall at the end of which a TV is blaring breaking news.
